Barty House Nursing Home

Barty House Nursing Home in rural Kent is one of three nursing homes owned by Canford Healthcare plc. Currently undergoing transformation, Barty House is having a new purpose built extension with 18 state of the art ensuite residential rooms.

To heat the new building Geoff West of M.C. Jordan Heating Services Ltd wanted to use JG Speedfit’s underfloor heating system. Geoff had installed both JG Speedfit’s plumbing and underfloor heating systems previously and was keen to use them again, because of the installation speed and product quality.

Speedfit took the CAD files from the architect and designed the system and pipe layout to suit. The final design used a total of over 5,800 metres of pipe connected to eight manifolds to heat the bedrooms, ensuites and hallways.

When using the CAD design service, it is important to make sure that all possible details about both the floor construction and covering are given to us so that the system will heat the building effectively and efficiently.

The installation was quick and easy. The pipe was stapled to the pre laid insulation and connected to the manifold, with the unique JG Speedfit Pushfit connection. No tools are required to make the joint between the pipes and manifold allowing the manifold to be positioned in places that would be difficult to access.

Once the pipe had been laid each manifold was pressure tested to make sure that the system was sound. The pressure was then lowered to six bar for screeding. Keeping the pipe under pressure expands the pipe very slightly; giving it room to expand once the screed has set. A programmable room thermostat was installed in every room allowing the user unlimited control of both time and temperature.

For the nursing home the removal of radiators meant that room design and furniture layout is not dictated by radiator position, allowing the whole space to be utilised.
