Underfloor Heating is one of the most widely used systems for heating domestic and commercial properties. Its growing popularity can be put down to a number of key lifestyle and operational benefits such as comfort, economy, flexibility and its virtually maintenance free operation.
The system works by circulating low temperature water, normally between 35-55°C, through loops of plastic pipe work which are embedded within the floor structure. This effectively turns the whole floor area into a low surface temperature radiator. Warm water is then distributed to the pipe work laid within the floor from a manifold which is best positioned in a convenient central location such as under the stairs or in a cupboard. The Speedfit Underfloor Heating system can be installed into most floor types and can be used with most floor coverings.
A radiator system lacks total efficiency as it transfers energy into the room largely by convection. This convection results in the floor being the coolest part of the room and leaves a mass of warm air at ceiling level.
Alternatively, an Underfloor Heating system heats a room mainly by radiation. This is considered the most natural and comfortable form of heating - just like the sun. Radiant energy emitted by the floor is partly reflected by each surface and partly absorbed. Where it is absorbed, that surface becomes a secondary emitter. After a while, all surfaces become secondary emitters. Furnishings themselves radiate energy and the room becomes evenly and uniformly warmed. The energy reaches into every corner of the room - no cold spot, no hot ceilings and no cold feet.
The system uses radiant heat, the most comfortable form of heating, giving an even distribution of warmth over the whole room.
SPACEThe system is unobtrusive and space saving which means every square metre of floor and wall space can be utilized giving freedom of interior design.
ECONOMYUnderfloor Heating Systems are designed to operate at lower temperatures than radiator systems, making them especially suitable for heat pumps, solar and condensing boilers.
CONTROLUnlike conventional radiator systems, Underfloor heating allows each room to control the heat source. This reduces energy usage whilst improving comfort levels within the building. Speedfit's range of self learning thermostats help to further reduce energy usage by automatically adjusting themselves to the characteristics of the building.
SAFETYCompared to radiators, there is no risk of injury from burns due to hot surfaces.
INSTALLATIONSpeedfit Underfloor Heating is simple to install, requiring the minimum of installation effort and little maintenance.
ENVIRONMENTUnderfloor heating is suitable for use with the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly heating systems including condensing boilers, solar power and heat pumps.
